At about 4:30 Mr. John and I dove into some more monologue work. We read through and discussed my contemporary piece first, before going back to Shakespeare. I need to work on the specifics surrounding my monologues. for example: why am I saying what I'm saying? Who am I talking to? Where am I? What has just happened leading up to this point? What time of day is it? Am I alone? etc. It is very important to think about and pick these specifics when doing a monologue. Once I had some specifics for my contemporary piece I felt much more connected to it and was better able to deliver the monologue. On to Shakespeare, in my first delivery I went from greatness with the first pice to suck town! Fail! After setting the scene and scenario for the monologue it was coming along much better! Still needs work though. For the rest of the evening I have to continue to pick specifics and become more grounded and connected to the monologues.
I feel like I'm getting a lot out of the one on one sessions with Mr. John. Tomorrow is a cleaning and more monologue work day. Very excited for the monologue work, not so excited for the cleaning. But, oh well, you got to do what you got to do. The life of an intern, until tomorrow...
